06 Gallery

Mayor of Abingdon Peter Green, district councillors and Jeremy Cunningham former headteacher at John Mason School at gallery opening in July 2006.On the 5th July 2006, John Mason School opened the 06 Gallery as a purpose built space in which to host a range of exhibitions by professional contemporary artists, new graduates, students, community groups and touring exhibitions.

The exhibition programme, which is fully accessible to the community, is used to extend curricular and extra-curricular opportunities for our students at John Mason and other schools within the Abingdon Partnership.

Our aim is to strengthen arts experiences for children, young people and the wider community and develop local interests and enthusiasm for visual art.

As part of its community plans John Mason School offers regular opportunities for the public to engage with exhibitions in the 06 Gallery through talks, family days and special events. For further details please see gallery guides below:

Opening Hours

9am – 4pm, weekdays during term time.

David Hockney exhibition at John Mason SchoolDavid Hockney  Grimms' Fairy Tales-
A Hayward Touring Exhibition

An exhibition of etchings by David Hockney, illustrating six fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm. Hockney has given each tale his own interpretation, choosing vivid images to encapsulate mood or detail. The series includes some familiar stories, like Rapunzel and Rumpelstilzchen.

Artist in Residence September 2009

Lucy Braxandall, Artist in Residence, John Mason School, Abingdon, OxfordshireWe are delighted that Lucy Baxandall is to continue her post as Artist in Residence at John Mason over the next academic year. Lucy will continue to support teaching in the Art department working with students at KS3, 4 and 5,  as well as leading projects with our community programme at our partner primary schools bringing her knowledge and skills in the art of papermaking and bookbinding to many more students.
