This summer over 50 children who currently attend primary schools in Abingdon came along to our summer schools. There was plenty to opt for with the summer gaming workshop, animation and art summer studio, along with our first ‘Abingdon Project’, a three day programme of science, problem solving and thinking outside of the box.
Day one saw us exploding Magnesium and experimenting with Hydrochloric Acid and the Bunsen burners, followed by exploration of flight on day two involving eggs and balconies – all very messy! The final day we looked at creation, extracted our own DNA and invented chimeras, mythical beasts that were then put before the ‘Gods of Everything Brilliant’. There were problems and challenges to solve during lunch and break time all week and each student recorded and explored in their own notebook made by our artist in residence. Each day ended with a supervised explosion – a highlight for many!
If you didn’t get a chance to take part this time as it was over subscribed, keep an eye on your class register for our next workshop leaflet coming up shortly.
