Chance in a Million for Local School

The school choir from John Mason, one of Abingdon’s three secondary schools, has been selected to get a chance in a million to be soloists on stage at Wembley Arena this March.

Auditions took place in December.  Students from Year 7 to Year 12 came for rehearsals nearly every day in the run-up to the audition day, and put in their best ever performance during the 2 hour selection process.  They were really determined to show off their skills at their best, in the hope of being included in the on-stage choir for part of the show.

All their efforts were rewarded with a fantastic surprise just before Christmas, when Claire Naylor, Head of Music, at the school, received an email which went beyond everyone’s hopes and dreams.  The choir had performed so impressively that they had been selected to be on stage for the entire concert, and also to sing their own solo item in front of the packed arena.

Everyone is now busy preparing for the next stage of the process, learning the especially written arrangement of  ‘Always Remember us this way’ from A Star is Born, in time for their next coaching and recording session in February.  Everyone at John Mason is really proud of the talent and commitment of the 46 students in their choir and wish them every success for their performance in front of thousands at ‘Voice in a Million’, and look forward to seeing them showing the school community upon their return,  in the school’s spring concert on March 19th.
